Comprehensive Plumbing Solution Prepares Multifamily Development for All Weather Conditions

Winter freezes in Texas are becoming more common, so a commercial plumbing system that can stand up to the unpredictable weather conditions – and is efficient to install with minimal connections – was needed for a multifamily development in Austin.

Gibson Plumbing chose a total Uponor commercial plumbing system. Uponor AquaPEX® was used for in-unit plumbing and Uponor ChlorFIT® Schedule 80 Corzan® CPVC was used for riser and mains. The in-unit plumbing was installed using the Uponor Logic Design method, combining flexible Uponor AquaPEX in sizes ½” to 1” with multiport tees located near fixture groupings. This method reduces the number of connections needed behind walls, reduces potential leak points, and lowers the cost of materials. The even crosslinking within Uponor PEX-a pipes allow the diameter to expand up to three times their size without bursting, making them resilient in freezing temperatures.

The Uponor ChlorFIT in sizes 2” to 4” plumbing system that serves the water mains and risers is industrial-grade strength, chlorine and corrosion resistant, and designed for efficient installation.
